Dear friends, I wanted to share some good news about my book, Floating on a Malayan Breeze. Barely two months after the launch, the book has been sent for a second print run. The first run of 1,750 is almost gone. That is small beer for an international book, but pretty good for a niche topic–when I first signed up with HKU Press, an editor there told me they’d be happy if we sold 1,000 in the first year.
So I wanted to thank all of you for your support. Couldn’t have done it without you (mean that quite literally, heh). Thanks in particular to Riya de los Reyes, Allanjit Singh, Kj Tan Kane Juan, Peter Schoppert and Sumana Rajarethnam, who have helped immensely in terms of marketing and digital publicity.
Also, the book has finally reached Western shores, and we will be starting our marketing push there over the next few weeks. For those of you who have read the book, or parts of it, I’d really appreciate if you can write a review on the Amazon site. We have no reviews and ratings at the moment, so page looks a bit naked. Even 1-2 lines will suffice. See link here. Thanks so much! 🙂
Congrats Sudhir. I am sure your know that The Economist listed your book in its annual book section of economist writers. I just read it.
Double whammy for you.
Hey, i will soon need your advice for my own book Sudhir. Can’t have you enjoy all this fun!
Thanks Uncle Gerry, yes I saw it. Sure, happy to have a chat about your book. Is the title “From Portugal to Cameroon via Singapore”?
Congratulations. After seeing the book mentioned in The Economist, I quickly added it to my Amazon cart, but was waiting for some other stuff before placing the order. Just 2 weeks later it was out of stock!
Fortunately Singapore’s best bookshop, Select Books, had a couple copies lying around.
I’m sure the book will have great success, if only for the novelty/curiosity factor: it’s not often you find an interesting new perspective on Singapore or Malaysia!
Thanks William for the kind words. Yes, Select Books is our best bookstore!
Just finished reading it yesterday after lugging it around Bali with me! 😛 Great analyses which I have to say I agree thoroughly with!
Thanks for the kind words, Sheema, and for lugging it around Bali!
That’s 2 clever by half and 2×2 clever 4 me. Thanks!
